A very good example of this title, not to be confused with the Rowlandson book of the same title published in 1818, indeed, this would seem to be the scarcer of the two. 'Johnny Newcome' was Naval slang for a new recruit.

First edition; 8vo; 20 hand-coloured aquatint plates by Charles Williams, some toning and slight offsetting to text ff., armorial bookplate to front pastedown; later full navy blue morocco ruled in gilt to covers and gilt compartments with decorations to spine, by Riviere & Sons, spine slightly rubbed and sunned, otherwise very good, gilt edges.
