With the author's signed presentation inscription to the front free endpaper, 'To the Prince & the Princess with love Alfred Xmas 1949'. The recipients were Paul Gallico and his wife Pauline Gariboldi.

First edition, sole impression, presentation copy inscribed by the author, one of 1250 copies; 8vo; publisher's red cloth, titles to upper board and spine gilt; no printed dust jacket was issued. A superb copy.
