This is the first edition of a pictorial account of the first ascent of Everest, issued to mark the 40th anniversary of the achievement. Alfred Gregory was the official stills photographer for the expedition and Jan Morris was the Times correspondent.

This copy contains the the Times celebratory colour supplement, commemorating the first ascent of Everest by Hillary and Tensing on Friday May 29, 1953, just before the Coronation.
