Paris, J.-M. Eberhart for Le Fuel, 1815
£180

This almanack was published at a turning point in French political history, following the overthrow of Napoleon and the beginning of the new constitutional monarchy and the reign of Louis XVIII. Four beautiful engravings, including a full-length portrait of the new monarch, illustrate the beginning of his reign: one engraved plate shows a balloon over Paris, as King Louis XVIII is entering the city after the definitive defeat of Napoleon.

The work also contains a precise list of the French Court of that time, from the royal librarians to political figures and aristocratic families.

Description

12mo., half-title, engraved frontispiece and title, 3 engraved plates, original printed boards with ornamental borders and royal coat-of-arms, lacking backstrip, gilt edges, with original printed slip-case replicating elements of the cover designs, some darkening and rubbing, but overall a very good example.
