Union des Artistes Russes, Paris, 1925

Avant-garde posters advertising the annual ball for Russian artists in Paris
Ephemera with designs by the artist Mikhail Larionov and the French sculptor Henri Laurens for the grand costume ball which took place at the Salle Bullier in 1925 for the Russian émigré community. The announcement states that this ball, organised by the Union of Russian Artists in Paris shall follow the theme of 'Constructivist architecture' and the guests are encouraged to choose rigourously 'modern' costumes. It further declares that at the ball (which doesn't end until six in the morning) guests can enjoy drinks specially prepared by Mikhail Larionov and Serge Fotinksy. The cocktails 'Boisson Moderne Citro-café' and 'Citronade chimiquement pur' are illustrated with their chemical compositions.

The verso designed to be folded into four, features the complete list of the artists involved in the ball including many notable names such as Diaghilev, Goncharova, Matisse, Man Ray, Mayakovsky, Picasso and Zdanevich. Read more.

3 sheets, two of which are duplicates and printed on both sides, the other is printed on one side (49.5 x 33 cm and 31 x 14 cm); lithographed in black and brown on green and brown paper, designed by Mikhail Larionov; folds, some fraying at edges, tear at the bottom of the small sheet, light sunning.
