Deluxe limited edition; folio (41 x 30 cm); titles printed in Russian and English in red and black, half-titles, biographical essay on Milton (in Russian only), text in Russian with smaller English columns below to each page, translated by A. Shul'govkskaia, illustrated with 50 plates in black and white after Doré, each with a tissue guard captioned in Russian and English, bookplate of Tsar Alexander III to upper pastedown, a.e.g.; contemporary polished calf, upper cover with red morocco onlays and elaborate gilt detailing, smooth spine gilt, binding signed R. Gerhold, Leipzig, some rubbing to spine, a fine copy.

  2. First UK edition, 8vo (20.5 x 15 cm); translated from the Russian by G. S. Counts & N. P. Lodge, 218pp., black and white illustrations throughout; original pictorial cloth, spine slightly sunned and cocked, a very good copy.

  3. First French edition, 8vo (22 x 14 cm); engraved frontispiece of Cossack soldiers, 94pp., numbering in ink to corner of each page; 19th century quarter green calf over marbled boards, flat spine gilt ruled, red morocco label with gilt title, a fine copy.

  4. First edition, 2 vols; 8vo (19.5 x 14 cm), 326, [1]; 338, [1] pp., bound in blue cloth with original upper wrappers and spines pasted on, in excellent condition.

  5. Landscape folio (40 x 54 cm); title-page with portrait of the artist and 24 lithographs mounted on thick paper, bound with a further 28 plates from a later work, some minor stains but overall very clean, marbled endpapers, a.e.g.; contemporary red morocco gilt, with gilt lettering to upper cover, edges rubbed and corners bumped.

  6. Folio (37.6 x 28.5 cm); title, colour title, 72, [2] pp. 8 colour plates tipped-in on thicker board including two portraits, 7 black and white plates, some half-page, with many illustrations in text; one plate loose. Original publisher's cloth, double-headed eagle centrepiece to upper cover, spine lettered in gilt; rubbed at extremities, ends of spine chipped, some spotting to upper cover.

  7. 8vo (23.6 x 17 cm), XII incl. title, 288, 68 pp., 6 plates; spotting to pp.92-93. XX century brown cloth with original printed upper wrapper laid on upper cover.

  8. Folio (42 x 34 cm). Decorated title page, IX, 41 plates with colour illustrations tipped in, each plate with a printed sheet of text. Publisher's cloth folder with decorative colour embossing on upper board; slightly spotted.

  9. Folio (40 x 30.5 cm). Half-title, title, frontispiece, dedication, 152 pp. with many photographic illustrations, 8 colour plates; a few small marginal tears without affecting the text. Publisher's beige wrappers with gilt lettering to upper board; very light spotting.

  10. Three parts in 4 volumes 4to (29.5 x 23.5 cm) including a slipcase. Folding lithograph frontispiece by J. Ferguson after Cowell, Biddulph and a photograph by Robertson, lithographic title by Ferguson after Elphinstone, title, vi, 299, [1] pp., 6 lithographed tables by H. James and 6 numbered plates on 5 folding sheets of stronger paper; repeated lithographic title, title, table of contents, 638 pp., [1] l.; vii including title, 273 pp., [1] l.; atlas of 16 plates on 12 folding sheets of stronger paper, one on thiner -- in all 22 plates plates lithographed by H. James under the direction of Cameron, numbered I-XX with XVIa and including a rarer 'Sheet III' on thiner paper, some with outline hand-colour; light spotting to text, maps with occasional soiling, some folds with short tears. Contemporary red cloth, covers with blind-stamped panel decoration, flat spines lettered in gilt; spines rubbed and faded with shelfmark labels to foot, slipcase strengthened.
