First English edition, folio (335 x 222 mm), engraved allegorical title after R. du Val, engraved portrait of the author after Sir Godfrey Kneller, folding engraved general map and 213 engravings on 98 plates (many folding or double-page) showing costumes, views, including panoramas, antiquities, numerous engraved illustrations in text, contemporary calf, rebacked, some edge-wear, corners worn, lightly rubbed, plate 4, Smyrna, with small area of loss to blank margin, plate 21, Magnesia, with small area of loss to blank fore-margin and slightly to image, usual creasing to large panoramas, generally a clean, attractive example.

  2. New edition. 8vo, 26 steel-engraved plates including frontispiece, engraved title page and map, numerous wood engravings, marginal staining to title and frontispiece, contemporary green morocco gilt, covers with wide gilt orders all edges gilt, lightly rubbed, a very good copy.

Engraved title, 3 double-page maps and 48 double-page etched plates after Melling by Schroeder, Bertaux, Le Rouge, Pillement, Desaux, Dessaulx, Desmaisons, Duparc, Dequevauviller, Née, and others, some before numbers; first map slightly soiled at margins, with 15cm. tear through engraved area and smaller tear at bottom margin, plate 37 with 15.5cm. tear through bottom margin, some shorter tears to folds, some plates a little spotted. Near contemporary full green straight-grained morocco by Fairbairn and Armstrong, panelled in gilt and blind, spine richly gilt, raised bands, large turn-ins decorated in gilt and blind, all edges gilt; a little rubbed at extremities.

First edition. 2 volumes bound in one, 4to; viii, 272 pp., 6 aquatint plates; iii-viii, [iv] (table of contents to chapters 1 & 2), 158 pp., engraved folding map and folding plate, lacking half-title, map offset. Contemporary half calf, flat raised bands, double dark red labels, marbled boards, mottled edges, a fine example.

First edition, second issue of volume 1, 3 volumes bound in 2, folio (51.5 x 32.4 cm.), half-titles, 3 engraved titles, one portrait, 2 unnumbered double-page general maps and 284 plates and maps on 167 sheets (of 168), 8 double-page or folding, elaborate engraved head and tail-pieces, one double-page printed table; uniform nineteenth-century blue morocco gilt by Lewis, Tennant arms on covers, gilt edges, repairs to leaves at beginning of vol.1, lacking plate 110 in vol.1 (Tournoi turc), some leaves spotted or browned, Italian bookseller's labels to upper pastedown, a very handsome set.

First edition, folio (59.2 x 43.8 cm), engraved title page, dedication, 52 pp., 12 engraved vignettes in text, 40 fine hand-coloured lithographs by Lemercier after Dupré, all plates titled and numbered, and blind-stamped with the artist's monogram encircled; complete with the Turkish Firman, text leaves a bit spotted, small marginal repair to lower blank margin plate 1, last plate a little toned with small marginal repairs to verso, all tissue guards taped to verso of preceding plate, contemporary Greek red half morocco gilt by Lardi of Athens with his ticket, neatly rebacked, corners renewed, covers a little spotted.

  7. First edition. Folio (58 x 43.5 cm), lithographed title (a little paper adhesion) and 39 tinted lithographs by J.B. Kuhn after von Hess, within decorative sepia borders with captions in Greek, French, German and English, later cloth preserving original upper cloth cover.

  8. First edition. 8vo, (240 x 150 mm). Double page engraved map as frontispiece, woodcut on verso of dedication, printers device at end; contemporary red half morocco with gilt ornaments and title to spine, top edge gilt. [vi], 336 pp.

  9. First edition. 8vo. (22x15 cm). xx, 395pp., 3 pages ads at end, 32 plates, 4 sketch maps; occasional scattered foxing to the pages, plates bright and clean. Original green cloth gilt, gilt lettering to spine; corners slightly bumped, else an excellent copy.
