This work is a much enlarged version of the author's earlier publication, Proceedings in Parga. De Bosset, a Swiss in the British army, arrived in the Ionian Islands in 1809. At various times over the next ten years he was stationed in Levkas, Zante, but principally Cephalonia where as Resident from 1810-1814 he acquired a considerable collection of antiquities and commenced the improvements completed later by Napier. These included the causeway across the Koutavos Lagoon together with its obelisk. In 1816 de Bosset was sent by Maitland to command the fortress at Parga. De Bosset had sympathies with the Pargiote desire to remain part of the Ionian Islands, resulting in his recall and dismissal by Maitland.
