First edition, first issue - a fine set in original parts.

The Mayhew brothers (Augustus and Henry) were both heavily involved in the production of Victorian satire; Henry, the elder, was in fact one of the founders of Punch magazine. That same style of sharp mockery shines through in the present work. Several chapters, such as 'The Natural History of Stuck-Up People,' appear to contain warnings about men to avoid when searching for a husband.
