Scarce presentation copy of the de luxe edition of one of the finest and rarest pictorial books on Scinde, its scenery and architecture, and the adjacent frontier.

Inscribed on paper label to front pastedown: 'Presentation Copy / Mrs. Robt. Cornish / Hills Court - Exeter / with William Edwards's [sic] / very Kind Regards'.

The work depicts places along the Indus valley and especially scenes of Hyderabad. The original sketches were made by Edwards while he was serving under Sir Charles Napier during the expedition of 1844-45 to Sind and Baluchistan. The sketches were produced as plain or coloured prints.

First edition. Folio. Inscribed presentation copy. Tinted lithograph title with portrait of General Napier, his printed signature and printed text and 10 hand-coloured lithograph views by Haghe after Edwards, heightened with gum arabic, mounted on card as issued (sheets size: 45 x 55.5 cm.; image size: c.27.5 x 38 cm.), leaf of text printed in blue with dedication to Napier and description of the plates. Loose as issued in original red morocco-backed ochre board portfolio, gilt title and large vignette to upper board, yellow paper pastedowns and brown cloth ties.
