Victoria Embankment, London.

A fascinating image, showing post-war crowds on the Victoria Embankment with the magnificent dolphin lampposts designed by George Vuilliamy. In the background can be seen the remains of a temporary bridge which ran from the end of Horse Guards Avenue across to the south bank of the Thames by County Hall. This like other temporary bridges constructed across the Thames during the second world war was removed between 1947 and 1948.
