L. T. Messens in 1946 as a forum for artists, writers, and scientists to explore ideas outside the confines of the Royal Academy. In 1950, the ICA moved into its first permanent premises, in Dover Street, London. The first significant exhibition at Dover Street was 'James Joyce: His Life and Work', a collection of Joyce's literary ephemera with a supporting program of events, including lectures and a recital of Joyce's poems set to music. T. S. Eliot opened the exhibition, and Richard Hamilton was responsible for its entire display and design, including this catalogue, which features a list of all exhibited items, photographs of Joyce, an introduction by T. S. Eliot, and contributions by Bernard Shaw, Edmund Wilson, Frank Budgen, Elizabeth Bowen, Cyril Connolly, Augustus John, and André Gide.

Folding exhibition catalogue inscribed by Richard Hamilton in pencil (101 cm x 76 cm, 39¾ x 30 in), machine-folded three times, light toning, occasional wear to folds.
