1898.
This book was compiled by Stasov (1824-1906), music and art critic, ethnographer and publicist, and issued simultaneously in German, Russian (edition of 150) and French (edition of 100). It was to serve as a complement to "Византийские эмали" [Byzantine enamels], one of the most luxurious and expensive Russian books produced at the expense of the collector Zvenigorodskiy in 1892. Here Stasov provides an extensive overview of the preparation and production of the Kondakov's masterpiece, including information about the author, editor, artists, typography and binders. Significant part of the work is dedicated to the commentaries of the owners of the presentation copies, including letters of the members of the Imperial family, reviews of the scientific and artistic institutions, as well as articles from magazines and newspapers.
