He later served in a number of teaching and administrative posts at Elphinstone College and Bombay University in India, before returning to Britain to take up the position of Principal of the University of Edinburgh, which he held from 1868 until his death in 1884.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e'Grant was the first British scholar to interpret Aristotle in primarily historical terms. Jowett's influence had led him to the study of German scholarship, and he followed Hegel in adopting an evolutionary picture of the history of Greek philosophy.
