He matriculated at Trinity College, Cambridge in 1693, and was ordained priest in 1700, becoming chaplain to Charles, Viscount Maynard.

'Dunster was a high-churchman and probably had nonjuring sympathies; he was closely involved with the Manchester Jacobites, who were to provide the largest English regiment during the 1745 rising. However, a clue to the ambivalence of Dunster's politics is found in his service in 1712 as chaplain to Charles Talbot, earl, later duke, of Shrewsbury, who was in communication with the Jacobite court. In 1716 Dunster published his translation of A Panegyrick of... King George by Charles Ludolph, baron de Danckelman. The panegyric, with a preface attacking those who "under a pretended Zeal for the Church, have join'd with Papists"during the 1715 Jacobite rising, was dedicated to Talbot's old friend Lord Somers. Both Talbot, who became lord chamberlain to the new king, and Dunster were anxious to prove their loyalty during the Hanoverian succession' (ODNB).

Fifth edition; 8vo (20 x 13 cm); parallel text in English and Latin, title printed in red and black, woodcut initials, head and tailpieces, a little toned; modern half sheepskin, marbled boards, spine lettered in gilt, very good; xii, 477, [7]pp.

ESTC N9664.
