Hodder and Stoughton, London 1953
An account of the successful British expedition led by Hunt in 1953. He subsequently became the "father figure" of post-war British mountaineering and was president of the Alpine Club (1956-8). This is good example of this great tale of men against the mountain.
This particular copy contains more signatures than most other copies of the actual expedition members and includes all the key players such as Hunt, Hillary and Tenzing. The signatures are as follows: John Hunt, Edmund Hillary, George Lowe, Michael Ward, Michael Westmacott, Tom Bourdillon, George Band and Tenzing Norgay.
First edition. 8vo., xx, 299pp., colour photographic frontispiece and 55 other photographic plates including 7 in colour, 3 maps and several other illustrations in the text, INSCRIBED by eight members of the team in ink on the title-page, loose ticket inserted, bookplate on front free endpaper; publisher's blue cloth, spine faded, publisher's dust-wrapper, small one cm tear at top of spine; a good copy.
