The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock [in] Poetry: A Magazine of Verse Vol. VI, No. III.
Stock Code 113497
Chicago, Seymour, Daughaday and Company, June 1915.
The first national appearance of Eliot's Prufrock, preceded only by publication in the Smith Academy Record and the Harvard Advocate, both college periodicals. Harriet Monroe included Prufrock in her magazine at Ezra Pound's urging, stating it was 'The best poem I have yet had or seen from an American', marking Eliot's first appearance outside of a school or university publication. The first separate edition would not appear until two years later. Copies of this fragile volume in good condition are rare.
First edition; 8vo; minor age-toning, else unmarked internally; original grey wrappers printed in red and black, slight loss to spine ends and edges of rear wrapper, short closed tear to upper joint, a little toned, else very good.
