the Venetian concerning the kingdoms and marvels of the East. Revised throughout in the light of recent discoveries.
London, John Murray, 1903-1920.
Henry Yule based his edition on the Pauthier text, first published in France in 1865. Although aware of its deficiencies and inconsistencies, Yule used this as a basis, which he then furnished with detailed notes from other sources, including the F-text, the earliest available source, and Ramusio's sixteenth-century translation. Its first publication was in 1871, and a revised edition followed in 1875. Upon his death the manuscript material for yet another revised edition, the one present here, was completed by the French scholar Henri Cordier, who also published the 1920 addenda, with substantial notes on the results of explorations and their bearing on the Polo text. With a memoir of Henry Yule by his daughter Amy Frances Yule.
Third and best edition, 3 volumes, 8vo, first 2 volumes illustrated with maps and plates, third volume consisting of notes and addenda by Cordier, original green cloth, spines decorated in blue, morocco labels, a very goodt set.
