The Whig politician Fox, wrote the history of James the Second to celebrate the 'Glorious Revolution' of 1688 in which James lost the throne, and as an antidote to the Tory views expressed in Hume's history of England. Fox intended to continue his history beyond James but died before he could complete his project.
