This expedition, under the auspices of the British Admiralty, was intended to complete the coastal survey from the west coast of Hudson's Bay to Point Turnagain on the Kent Peninsula. However H.MS. Terror was severely damaged by ice and stuck fast for ten months before being forced to return home.
