The pencil notes read: 'Offert par G. Reboul de Rochebalve, de passage à Lyon, 8 juillet 1890, à l'occasion du passage à Vichy du général Wannowski, ministre de la guerre de Russie'. Wannowski (1822-1904), was the minister of War in the Cabinet of St. Petersburg from 1881-1898.

'The House of Dolgorukov (Russian: Долгоруков) is a princely Russian family. The founder of the Dolgorukow was named Prince Ivan Andreevich Oblenskiy (15th century). He was known for his vengefulness and given the nickname of Долгорукий Dolgorukiy, i.e. 'with a long arm'. Obolensk was incorporated into the expanding Grand Duchy of Moscow in 1494, and the house of Dolgorukov became a powerful noble family in Tsardom of Russia and the Russian Empire' -
