A non-vocalised edition of the Pentateuch, based on E. van der Hooght's text (Darlow and Moule 5141). It is the earliest edition of the Hebrew Bible (apart from the London Polyglot) to be printed in England.

The editor, Nathaniel Forster D. D. (1718–1757) was an English cleric and biblical scholar. Son of a minister, he was educated at Eton and at the Corpus Christi College in Oxford. In 1750 he became domestic chaplain to Bishop Joseph Butler, who died in his arms two years later in Bath, Somerset.
