Johann Heinrich Füssli (1741-1825) was one of 18 children of the notable portrait and landscape painter Johann Caspar Füssli. After studying in Zurich he travelled extensively around Europe and chose to spend much of his life in England, later becoming a member of the Royal Academy and anglicising his name to Henry Fuseli. He held an influential position in art and literary circles of Britain at the time, with William Blake and John Constable among his many pupils. This French edition was printed at roughly the same time as the German edition and includes views of Rapperswil, Greifensee, Rütli, Tellskapelle, Windisch and Königsfelden, Morgarten, Habsburg, Gruyere, Laupen, Alt Regensburg, Stoss.
