First edition of one of the earliest accounts of the Caspian region by a European.

Hanway (1712-1786), was a partner in the house of Dingley, a merchant in St. Petersburg, who was engaged in trade with Persia, hence the author's journeys. There were no accurate maps of the Caspian Sea until about the time of Hanway, and his voyages on the Caspian were helpful in the later drawings of that sea.
