Charles Kerry (c. 1884-1917) opened a studio in Sydney in 1884. From approximately 1893 this was known as Kerry and Co., and closed in 1917.

The oldest scientific institution in Australia, the Botanic Gardens were founded in 1816 by Governor Macquarie. The collection and study of plants began the following year with the appointment of the first Colonial Botanist, Charles Fraser.
