Racine's work was first published in French in 1742, but this is also the only work by him to appear in English. The translator has been identified as James Elphinston. Louis (1692-1763) was the second son (and last child) of the famous playwright Jean Racine. La Religion is his most important work, inspired by Pascal and Bossuet.
