The non-plus-ultra copy of the author's second book. Inscribed by her on the dedication leaf which bears the printed name Robert Byron, 'oh dear Robert please don't be cross about this will youý [To Robert Byron] with love from Nancy 25. Nov. 1932'.

The travel writer Robert Byron was one of Nancy's closest friends and many years after his death in 1941, during World War II, she wrote that she missed him most of all her friends (The Letters of Nancy Mitford & Evelyn Waugh, 1996).
