The print run of this publication would have been very small. An important survey of the various Turkish populations in the Near East and Central Asia, occasioned by the rise of Pan-Turanianism, i.e. a pan-Turkish movement aimed at a union of all Turkish populations and the expulsion from Turkey of foreign elements and the establishment of a civilisation based entirely on old Turkish traditions.

This volume formed part of a series of Handbooks, published by the Geographical Section of the Naval Intelligence Division (part of the Royal Navy), from 1917 to 1922.
