He was a lifelong believer in free trade and in this pamphlet laid out his arguments for the abolition of monopolies. He particularly focusses on the idea that the enterprise of individuals would reap more trade than a larger planned model, and would become a key parliamentary figure in the eventual abolition of the monopoly in the Act of 1833.
