Prize-binding for The Law Society. An excellent example in a presentation binding for The Law Society of the F.W. Maitland's historical account of the Domesday Book and its relevance to the legal history of England.

Maitland (1850-1906) was Downing Professor of the Laws of England at the University of Cambridge from 1888 until his death. Today he is best remembered for his History of English Law, written with Sir Fredrick Pollock, and published in 1895. Domesday Book and Beyond was originally written to form part of this history, but publication was forestalled and the work subsequently considered complete enough in its own right to deserve separate publication.

First edition, first issue; 8vo (23.5 x 16 cm); binder's label to rear pastedown, very light spotting to endpapers; contemporary red morocco prize-binding for The Law Society by J. Low, gilt arms to upper cover, gilt spine in 6 compartments all edges gilt minor wear to eztremites, top of front cover slightlyy darkened, very good; xiii, [1], 527, [1]pp.
