He was a celebrated Persian calligrapher that was born in Iran and the nephew of Mir 'Emad Qazvini. After the untimely assassination of ihs uncle in Iran, Abd' al-Rashid emigrated to India and held a high-ranking position at the court of Shah Jahan, where he served as tutor to the princes Dara Shikoh and Zeb-un-Nisa.
