Napier describesl how Scinde became drawn into the sphere of influence of the government of British India, and the events, including the First Anglo-Afghan War, leading to its conquest. A controversial work as it defends the actions of the author's brother, Sir Charles Napier, who resigned his post as Commander-in-Chief in India after being censured by Lord Dalhousie.
