Shapero Rare Books are members of the Provincial Booksellers Fairs Association (or the PBFA as it is more commonly referred to), the UK’s largest and most active rare books association, with even an Edward Bawden designed logo to boot.
The Association boasts over 500 members, an eclectic bunch ranging from everyday generalist secondhand book dealers to those who specialise in very specific targeted areas of book collecting, with something between them to meet the needs of even the most demanding of bibliophiles.
Founded in 1974, officially at least, the PBFA has gone from strength-to-strength over the years, attracting as diverse a range of bookseller as their Fairs do book collectors, and today the association hosts more than 80 Book Fairs throughout the country every year. The Fairs range from smaller provincial sales (as befits their name) to grander Premier Book Fairs, such as the Cambridge, Oxford, York and London International Book Fair, as well as more specialist Book Fairs including the Illustrated, Children’s and Modern Firsts Fair and the Military Book Fair. There is even a special Christmas Book Fair ideal for those looking for a unique or special gift, and, as with all the PBFA Book Fairs, across a wide range of prices to suit all budgets.
Similar to the ABA, all PBFA members are expected to adhere to a Code of Practice to protect customers and maintain the reputation of the trade simultaneously.
