First published in 1610, this is the second edition of John Healey's translation of Saint Augustine's City of God. A fine copy in contemporary binding.

This second edition in English was revised by William Crashaw (1572-1626) and includes the commentary of Juan Luis Vives (first published in Basel, 1522), which Vives wrote at the suggestion of Erasmus. Saint Augustine discusses 'the wickednesse of art Magicke' and other matters relating to devils, demons and spirits in books eight and nine.
