Lovely Russian edition of this celebrated children’s book that tells a story of a little American boy, who discovers he is the heir to an English aristocratic title and a fortune. The striking publisher’s binding here in an unusually bright condition.
Little Lord Fauntleroy was the first children’s novel of English playwright and author Frances Hodgson Burnett (1849-1924). It was first published in book format in original English in 1886 following the serialisation in St. Nicholas magazine. Its popularity was enormous. Polly Horvath, an American-Canadian author of novels for children, wrote that Little Lord Fauntleroy “was the Harry Potter of his time and Frances Hodgson Burnett was as celebrated for creating him as J.K. Rowling is for Potter.”
There is little doubt that in Russia the novel was also received with great enthusiasm, as before 1918 it underwent at least 13 editions.
