An important work. Grelot was the first to prepare detailed plans of St. Sophia and other monuments in Constantinople. The English edition was translated by John Phillips, John Milton’s nephew.

First English edition, 8vo, translated by J. Philips, engraved frontispiece portrait of Mahomet IV, 8 folding engraved plates (mostly views of the city, and mosques), 6 full-page engraved illustrations in the text, neat repair to blank upper margin of frontispiece, one illustration slightly trimmed , modern calf-backed marbled boards, vellum tips, a very good copy.
