Anderson (1795-1845), was a Scottish civil servant who entered the East India Company in 1813. He served first as a writer in Penang (then known as Prince of Wales Island), before being promoted to the rank of factor. Eventually he became a justice of the peace for Penang, Singapore, and Malacca.


First edition. 8vo, xxiv, 424pp., half-title, 8 engraved plates, 4 folding maps, small repair to blank area of title, contemporary tree calf gilt, sometime rebacked preserving original spine, red morocco lettering piece, marbled edges, wear to extremities, a very good copy.
