Decoratively bound copy of the limited american edition. A record of Diaghilev’s revival of La Belle au Bois Dormant at the Alhambra Theatre in London in 1921. This deluxe edition with its spectacular illustrations commemorates Bakst’s costumes and sets for a ballet so lavish that it nearly bankrupted Diaghilev.
Limited edition, one of 500 copies of the American edition; folio, (40 x 30 cm); 56 mounted colour plates (two in-text) and frontispiece portrait; later half black morocco and marbled boards with decorative colour inlays to spine (image from plate 15 of book), gilt lettering, marble and morocco slipcase (glued along one edge). A fine copy.
