Bolts, a merchant, had made an enemy of the governor of Bengal, Harry Verelst. On his return to England Bolts brought a law suit against Verelst and took advantage of the British public’s shock at the reports of scandalous behaviour on the part of some East India Company servants to launch the present attack on Clive and Verelst. First published in English in 1772.
