With the rare folding map (issue with Jamaica blank) of this frequently printed and very important narrative which, for many years, was “looked upon as little better as a Romance” (Hill) due to the seriousness of the “extraordinary distresses and adventures” Cockburn and his men encountered. Cockburn and five other pirates were taken by the Spanish coast guard, in 1730. They escaped from jail in San Pedro Sula in Honduras, crossed the Isthmus to San Salvador and travelled to Panama overland. “Valuable, on account of its filling a period in the history of their characteristics not elsewhere to be found” (Field).
