On 25th February 1879 a statue of Captain James Cook was erected in Hyde Park, Sydney. This copy of the Programme of Proceedings bears the signature of John Jackson Calvert (1830-1915) on the margin of the first page in red ink. Calvert held the positions of Clerk of the Parliaments and of the Legislative Council at the time.
First edition. 8vo, 6 pp., photographic frontispiece (edge-worn), front pastedown with the Dance portrait of Cook, rear pastedown with procession and programme details printed in blue and red, tipped-in 3 page ode by Henry Halloran The unveiling the Captain Cook statue (sic), dark full-morocco gilt, lettered to upper cover within fancy floral border, the border repeated on rear cover, corners worn, a very good copy.
