James Ramsay MacDonald (1866 – 1937) the first Labour Party Prime Minister elected briefly to office in 1924, then from 1929 to 1931, and headed a National Government from 1931 to 1935.

Conway’s of Halifax still thrives today.

Description

Limited edition, 8vo., one of 300 copies on paper, out of a total edition of 325, slight foxing in places, publisher’s limp vellum by the Doves Bindery (stamped so on rear endpaper), gilt lettered title on spine, very occasional faint spotting otherwise near fine. The copy of Ramsey MacDonald, with original purchase receipt of the Doves Press made out to MacDonald (2 copies, one of which is receipted), preserved together in a recent but splendid morocco solander box by ‘S. Conway, Bookbinder, Halifax’ (their trade label affixed inside) comprising black spine, tan boards onlaid with a geometric pattern of black and beige squares to the upper cover and a small sequence to the lower one, in excellent condition.
