Description

An excellent inscribed copy of this vividly-wrappered first edition by Beat Generation and general counter-culture guru Herbert Huncke, a marvellous association copy with the author’s signed presentation inscription to the title page, “Hello – Laff, Katherine, Julius, Marie and Nicholas. Good luck to each of you,. In sincerity Herbert. 1 – 9 – 81. For Peter – With love and best wishes – always. Herb Huncke. 1-9-81”. The principal recipient was Peter Orlovsky, actor & poet and long-time partner to Allen Ginsberg.

Huncke plays a pivotal role in the emergence of the Beat Generation, a term he is even credited by some for having created; his life-stories from 42nd Street NY inspired Ginsberg, Kerouac and Burroughs, and Kerouac’s character Elmer Hassel in On the Road was based on him.

Description
