Vue d’Optiques were a series of perspective views published during the eighteenth century designed as a form of entertainment to be viewed through a variety of optical devices. They resulted in some of the most intriguing and unusual images. This set of three are fine examples of this printing method.
1.View of figures walking in St. James’s Park.
2. View of Richmond.
3. View of the Rotunda and Ranelagh House in Ranelagh Gardens, Chelsea, during a Jubilee Ball. In the foreground a crowd of costumed figures have gathered, on the right a maypole dance is taking place.
Three Vue d’Optique engravings with contemporary hand-colour, all mounted.
