Lucy Atkinson accompanied her ‘husband’, the traveller Thomas Atkinson, to Russian Central Asia, spending six years and travelling 6,800 miles with him, giving birth on the way. Her account was published after Thomas’s death, which is when she discovered that he was a bigamist.
The book was generally well received. Today it is much scarcer than the accounts by Thomas.
