Very good copy of the first English edition, “Serving as a supplement to the Life of Catharine II”. As the title page indicates, the subject covered is broad but mainly focused on the court history: “containing various anecdotes, collected during a residence of ten years in [the] capital. Together with remarks on the education of the grand-dukes, the manners of the ladies, and the religion of the people”.

2 volumes 8vo., viii, 357, [5]; [2], vii, [i], 219, [7] pp. including a 4 page publisher’s catalogue at end; contemporary mottled half calf gilt, green morocco labels, an excellent set.
