Lovely album of 35 very finely and densely coloured views of the Alps, as seen from prominent French and Swiss towns.

Owing to their especially fine condition, the engravings are strongly resemblant of gouache paintings. Each scene is rendered in minute detail and vivid colour, evoking the beauty and brightness of the Alpine landscapes. Whilst the album is composed predominantly of mountain scenes depicting famous towns such as Chamonix and Geneva, it also includes several charming depictions of town life. Engravings of the French town Aix-les-Bains and Swiss town Shaffhouse reflect the bustle of everyday life, with delicately rendered townsfolk set against the backdrop of local architecture.

Landscape album (23.3 x 32cm). With 35 engravings (probably of 39) of varying sizes,
including two chromolithographs depicting Gliser and Montreux; occasional light spotting, four removed engravings leaving glue marks, occasional short marginal closed tears. Contemporary green morocco spine over green pebbled grain cloth with single gilt rule, gilt title (‘ALBUM’) to upper board, spine with single gilt fleuron in compartments; joints slightly rubbed but otherwise a very clean binding.
