A handsome copy of a rare, lively set of bull fighting plates.

‘A speaker of French, Italian, Spanish, and German, Lake Price travelled extensively in Europe and was resident in Rome (1839–40) and Venice (1840–42). Many of his watercolours were based on places he had visited, as were his two volumes of lithographs, Interiors and Exteriors in Venice (1843) and Tauromachia, or, The Bull-fights of Spain (1852)’ (ODNB).

Ford, connoisseur and author, was one of the leading British authorities on Spain, and was author of the influential ‘Handbook for Travellers in Spain’ published by John Murray.

First edition; folio (54 x 37 cm), 26 plates, including lithographic title, numbered in ink by hand, pages mounted on tabs, lithographic title laid down, closed tears and soiling to margins, repair to lower edge of printed title, some minor, occasional soiling and minor chips to other plates, otherwise very good; modern half calf gilt, marbled boards, gilt lettering piece to upper board, edges rubbed; [7], 8-16 pp.
