Richard Doyle (1824-83) was a remarkable artist and caricaturist who at nineteen became a regular contributor to “Punch” before proceeding to illustrate numerous notable publications. His illustrations are invested “with haunting and unearthly beauty peculiarly his own”. First edition, folio, 16 colour-printed plates by Richard Doyle executed by Edmund Evans, occasional light foxing, bookplate to front pastedown, original green cloth gilt, marked, some minor fraying and wear to spine extremities and board edges, gilt edges, overall a very good copy.
