Fine, fresh example of the first edition, with English aristocratic provenance.
A rare series of views of Trieste and the coastline of the Istrian peninsula, then part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. August Tischbein exhibited in Vienna between 1842 and 1867 and was known as a painter of landscapes, architecture and genre; all are represented here. August Selb( 1812-1859) was born in Munich, studied under his father, the artist and lithographer Josef, and at the Munich academy.
Folio (58.5 x 44 cm). Lithographed title, frontispiece, map and 42 plates lithographed by Kunz, Linassi and Selb, after Selb and Tischbein; some mostly marginal spotting, this more pronounced in the title. Contemporary moiré cloth binding, the upper cover with a large green morocco label lettered in gilt, brown coated endpapers, some wear at the spine ends, extremities rubbed, front hinge starting, endpapers creased.
